We were only here for a day so our first impressions of San Miguel were that there was an old colonial feel to the city. The town was filled with artisans and there were many boutique style shops along the many hilly streets. Beautiful, huge Mexican homes were nestled behind beautifully carved wooden gates. We would have loved to see what was behind them!
The Historic Museum of San Miguel de Allende used to be an old hacienda where Ignacio José de Allende y Unzaga, one of the leaders of the Mexican Independence was born. Inside there is a recreation of life in the 1800s and how the hacienda operated.
