The event takes place in the Tobolandia Water Park and has been going on for 39 years. Most of the proceeds go to charities, so it's a good event to attend.
There is live music playing all day and special performances such as dancing horses, Aztec dancers, Mariachi bands, belly dancers, and Hawaiian dancers.
Winners of various raffles are announced every hour with prizes such as dinner for two, spa treatments, wine and other great gifts.
Like all food competitions, judging comes down to personal taste. I like to have chili that has some "bite" to it. There were a few that were a bit too sweet, and two that I didn't care for at all due to lack of flavor. It essentially came down to two teams for my vote. In fact, it was so close that I had to go back for a second taste to officially decide.
So if you are in the Lake Chapala area during February, don't miss out on this great community event full of deliciousness and fun!
